This weekend in motorsport!

This weekend the MotoGP moved to the stunning Algarve International Circuit for the Portuguese GP and final GP of the year.

Local favourite and KTM rider Miguel Oliveira took the top spot with Jack Miller and Franco Morbidelli coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

This year’s MotoGP champion had to start the race from 20th after an electrical problem in qualifying. After ending up in P12 after an electric opening lap, However, he dropped down the order again to 19th on the second lap after making contact with the rear of Johann Zarco’s Avintia Ducati at Turn 3. Mir had already collided with Pramac’s Francesco Bagnaia on the opening lap at the same corner, which seemingly dislocated the Italian’s shoulder. This caused more electrical failures and Joan Mir had to retire and not finish the race.

 

This weekend we saw our very own Brad Binder be awarded the 2020 MotoGP Rookie of the year, Brad has put in an memorable performance in 2020 and we look forward to the 2021 season.

 

Darryn Binder put in an amazing performance yet again finishing in 6th position and 8th overall.

 

The F1 will travel to Bahrain International Circuit for the Bahrain GP. All eyes will be on Lewis Hamilton as he looks to end off his dominant 2020 season.

 

In local events, MotoKids is heading back to Dirt Bronco for its final event of the year. MotoKids is a fun race series that exists for novice and amateur kids as a stepping stone before Club and Regional Racing. It is for developing junior motorcycle riders and is the breeding ground for the future generation of two wheeled enthusiasts.

 

On the 27th and 28th of November, the 2020 TRACN4 National Rally heads to Dullstroom. Our very own Paolo Gouveia Snr will be competing in his son’s Nissan Skylin R32 as Paolo Jnr will be assisting the Toyota Rally Team.
